  1. Your email bounced back to me david@kiwification.info

Just visited your site and it has numerous fatal errors that shut down your pages.

I am using Vista home premium so you must have some conflicts with it.

    Love the idea tho.

  2. Hey Gregg,

Thanks for letting me know - I’d noticed some errors a few days ago with IE7, but testing on a different PC worked fine. I guess there is something afoot - I’ll find it, and fix the email link too!

  3. Hey David,

You had contacted me on Facebook and I replied there. I have a question for you.

I am an educator and filmmaker. I have familiarized myself with the immigration process and will be contacting some employers concerning employment. I have a two fold approach to my desire to relocate to NZ; first, offer my skills to help mold the next generations of scientists and artists, and second, build my fledgling company.

I have a small production company and will be looking to build according to distribution specs I have planned. Namely, I need a rather urban space (meaning centrally located) with a large, open floor plan. I am currently in what is referred to as a “loft space” here in the US. I have looked at several places in Auckland (Mount Eden and Parnell). My question is, is there a difference in commercial and residential spaces in NZ? And if so, can I use my DIY warehouse space as my residence?

I want to build a sound stage for commercial work (I will be using my space for shoots as well as server racks for online distribution of commercial work), but I don’t have enough money to invest in both a house and a business space. So I need to invest in a space that can be used for both my films and as my home. What would you suggest?

    Josh

  4. Hey Josh,

Being a “fresh” Kiwi, I’m only guessing, but I’d say that you’d run into trouble trying to reside in a commercial space, whereas it shouldn’t be an issue to work from your residence.

Especially if you’re considering online distribution, you’ll want to make sure that the area you choose has fiber internet access (not all areas do, but central Auckland or Wellington will be fine)

Since you’re going to be involved in media production, it might be worthwhile to consider Wellington, since there’s already an established media community / resources there (WetaFX, Peter Jackson, etc), and the most of the city has excellent fiber access. (http://www.citylink.co.nz)

Although, if you _could_ reside in a commercial building, there are a bunch of warehouses currently being used as production studios in Wellington, if I remember correctly. One of them was used for the Fanghorn Forest scenes in LOTR…

Hope I’ve helped you more than I’ve confused you ;)
